A former strategist to Jeb Bush who left the GOP over then-candidate Donald Trump, told Buzzfeed News that Republicans "deserve the reckoning that will eventually come" if President Trump ends the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Bradshaw shared her thoughts on Trump's leadership with Buzzfeed News.
The reported decision has been met with dismay by Dreamers and supporters, with former president Barack Obama said to be mulling an opposing statement on the topic in response to any announcement on ending DACA by Trump. "In essence, Hispanic voters tell us our Party's position on immigration has become a litmus test, measuring whether we are meeting them with a welcome mat or a closed door". "Anti-immigrant folks are very strong, without mentioning names I think you've seen some of them, and then on the other side you got some Republicans that want to do the right thing, and then you're going to have the ones in the middle that are going to be pulled by the third parties that will go after them".
And with reports that Trump is planning to announce an end to DACA on Tuesday, Bradshaw is disappointed that the recommendations laid out by the project have not been considered at all. I am a conservative.
Trump basically rejected the autopsy in total, campaigning on a tough anti-immigration platform that included a pledge to complete a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico and saying, in his announcement speech, that the country was sending "rapists" to the United States.
Bradshaw, who was one of the authors on the GOP's post-2012 "autopsy" that recommended a more inclusive attitude toward Hispanics within the party, also described Trump as "anti-woman, anti-Hispanic, anti-black, anti-anything that would bring the country together", and she said that she would not consider herself a Republican as long as Trump remained the leader of the party.
