What has become the new normal for Musk, the prolific inventor tweeted Monday about a future of world war fueled by the rise of artificial intelligence. In July, he called it "the greatest risk we face as a civilization".
In the ongoing tension between North Korea and the US and a potential nuclear warfare, Musk commented, "NK launching a nuclear missile would be suicide for their leadership, as SK, US and China wd invade and end the regime immediately". Because artificial intelligence (AI) is how you get World War III - well, at least according to SpaceX/ Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Even earlier, Musk had expressed concerns about the possibilities of Artificial Intelligence emerging as a lethal force against human beings. China and the USA have been known to be two frontrunners in AI, with China recently announcing it wants to be the global leader in AI research by 2030.
He was one of 116 signatories of an open letter last month calling for a United Nations ban of such AI-led weapons.
Whether AI will be the death of humanity is hard to predict, of course, but presuming nuclear weapons don't start getting thrown over Asia in the next couple of weeks, perhaps we'll all live long enough to find out.
