Kershaw improved to 16-2 and lowered his ERA to 1.95 while helping Los Angeles reduce its magic number to 13 for winning the NL West. He ended up pitching six innings and just 70 pitches. The only two hits allowed by Kershaw were a soft grounder by Manuel Margot to second that opened the first and a grounder by Yangervis Solarte to short that opened the fifth. Nunez put the Bosox ahead to stay with a two-run blast in the third inning.
Brewers 1, Nationals 0: Jimmy Nelson scattered three singles and struck out 11 over seven innings, and host Milwaukee beat Washington.
Phillies 2, Marlins 1: Philadelphia was shut out for seven innings by major league newcomer Dillon Peters but rallied for two runs in the ninth and extended host Miami's losing streak to five.
Red Sox 4, Yankees 1: Doug Fister pitched seven strong innings and Boston hit three homers in a victory over NY. Scooter Gennett was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored as Cincinnati won for the third time in four games.
Addison Reed pitched a ideal eighth and Craig Kimbrel posted his 32nd save in 36 opportunities.
Following the game, Kershaw said efficiency wise the game was all he could expect.
Indians 10, Tigers 0 (Game 2): Roberto Perez homered and knocked in three runs to back the six strong innings by Mike Clevinger as Cleveland completed a doubleheader sweep. He walked no one, and both hits off him were singles.
Dan Otero pitched the seventh, Kyle Crockett the eighth and Nick Goody the ninth for the Indians.
Blake Snell combined with three relievers on a seven-hitter as the Rays earned a 3-1 win over the White Sox.
Cleveland's lead in the AL Central is up to eight games after Mike Moustakas and Brandon Moss homered in Kansas City's 7-6 win over the second-place Twins.
The ace for the Los Angeles Dodgers was impressive in this first start after returning from a five-week stint on the DL for a bad back. Leake spotted Oakland a 2-0 lead in the first but lasted seven innings to win his first game since being acquired from St. Louis. Brad Ziegler took a 1-0 lead and a 13-inning scoreless streak into the ninth, but Maikel Franco doubled and Jorge Alfaro tied it with a single.
Eugenio Suarez and Adam Duvall drove in two runs apiece to help the Reds beat the Pirates, 7-3. Nelson (11-6) tied his career high in strikeouts.
Rangers 10, Angels 9: Carlos Gomez scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and Alex Claudio (4-1) got Eric Young Jr.to hit into a fielder's choice with the bases loaded in the ninth to give the Rangers victory in the four-hour, 33-minute game.
