The festival is also called as Id ul-Adhavin Arabic and Bakrid in the Indian subcontinent. As the moon was sighted on August 22, Eid al-Adha falls on September 2. In Asian countries like India, Pakistan and Bangladesh Bakrid celebration date is Saturday, September 2.
The 66 unhealthy animals consisted of six cows, five sheep and 55 goats. In commemoration of this, an animal is sacrificed and divided into three parts: one third of the share is given to the poor and needy; another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbors; and the remaining third is retained by the family. They distribute the meat as per the process and celebrate by cooking delicious food at home with friends and family.
Muslims elsewhere in the Middle East and southeast Asia will have fewer days to mark Eid, with Egypt, Oman, Kuwait and Jordan have a five-day holiday from Thursday until September 4.
1 could be a holiday for Muslims but people of other faiths would not be allowed to skip work.
