The Lions are coming off a 9-7 record in 2016 in which they reached the playoffs but lost in the opening round.

The Cardinals look to shake off last season's disappointments and get right back in the mix as one of the NFL's best teams as they kick things off with a road trip to Detroit to take on the Lions at Ford Field. On second down, Golden Tate collided with a defender and Matthew Stafford's pass to Tate went Cards cornerback Justin Bethel, who returned the pick 82 yards for the touchdown with 11:14 left. And the biggest question of the day, will Kenny Golladay see targets? And his ability to cause problems in the passing game should be a nightmare for Detroit, who doesn't have the most incredible linebacking corps. This is Ameer Abdullah's time to shine. He has the ability to be a weapon as both a runner and receiver, which makes it almost impossible for defenses to create game plans against him.

Looking at how the Cardinals looked in the preseason and how their schedule plays out, it appears they can win anywhere between 10-12 games.

Running on empty - Detroit has been trying to build a running game with little success pretty much since Barry Sanders retired. Detroit's defense lacked much of a pass rush previous year, so Palmer should have time to air it out against this questionable secondary as well.

The Lions defense will work hard defending the Cardinals. With the future of aging veterans in quarterback Carson Palmer, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and head coach Bruce Arians all in doubt past this season, this could be a final act for this nucleus in Arizona.

This has the potential to be one of the most entertaining, closely-matched games of the opening week on the National Football League docket.
