The visual is a remake of the popular '90s series Friends, except now it stars an all-black cast. Meanwhile, Insecure mastermind Issa Rae stars as Rachel, while Tiffany Haddish plays Phoebe, and Tessa Thompson plays Monica.
The video - watch a preview here - is available now to Tidal subscribers now; everyone else will be able to watch it in a week, according to a tweet from Master of None co-creator Alan Yang, who directed the spot. Lil Rey Howery from Get Out stars as Joey, Lakeith Stanfield from Atlanta stars as Chandler, and Jerrod Carmichael from The Carmichael Show as David Schwimmer.
Instead of opening with the famous "I'll Be There for You" by, the theme song is replaced with Whodini's hip-hop classic "Friends".
Carmichael then begins to explain why he took the role only to be left feeling inadequate knowing his friend's words were right. Rae later takes him off set and leads him towards the, well, moonlight.
For the video, Jay-Z inserts audio of the Oscar Best Picture mixup at the end of the clip. The latest comes in the form of "Moonlight", yet another track off the ultra-personal project.
This theme ties into the song's lyrics since Jay-Z makes a reference to the now-infamous Oscars mix-up that named La La Land as the Best Picture victor instead of the movie Moonlight.
