"Iran continues to support the Houthis, Iranian arms are smuggled in", Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdulmalik al-Mekhlafi said at a news conference at the United Nations in NY. "Iran is part of the problem, not the solution", Foreign Minister Abdulmalik al-Mekhlafi said when asked if Tehran could contribute to a political solution in Yemen at a news conference at the United Nations in NY. "Yemen is where the real proxy war is going on and winning the battle in Yemen will help define the balance of power in the Middle East".

This proxy war is between Iran and Saudi Arabia. He was speaking at UN headquarters after a major luncheon hosted by Yemen and Saudi Arabia with the majority of diplomatic missions to the United Nations.

"Iran should get the hell out of the area period", Ambassador Abdallah Al-Mouallimi said.

The vice president's statements only reiterate the negative role that Iran plays in Yemen.

Yemen has been engulfed in civil war since September 2014, when Huthi rebels swept into the capital and overthrew the government.

Saleh and the Houthis have been in alliance nearly since the Saudi-led war began on their country in March 2015.

People at the scene told Reuters The warplanes were believed to be from a Saudi-led Arab coalition waging a 2-1/2-year-old campaign against the Iran-aligned Houthi movement for control of the country in a war which has killed at least 10,000 people.
