Soldiers from the Pakistani army targeted Indian positions and villages in the Mendhar sector along the Line of Control (LoC) using automatic weapons and mortars, state-run broadcaster All India Radio said. He hailed from Tarsana village in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh.

"Pakistan Army again initiated unprovoked firing on Indian Army posts in Krishna Ghati sector at around 5 pm".

Another soldier is reported to have been injured in Pakistan army's indiscriminate firing in the same sector. He added that the Indian Army retaliated the firing. This is the second time in a row when Pakistan has violated ceasefire on Saturday.

An official said some mortar shells fired by Pakistani troops landed in the civilian areas in Balakote sector in Mendhar, Poonch.

"The 45-year-old woman Raqia Begum was a resident of upper Golat in Mendhar", Mendhar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Riyaz Tantray told ANI.

"They remained confined to their homes and once the firing and shelling subsided, they moved to underground bunkers for safety", he said.

Till August 1 this year, there have been 285 instances of ceasefire violation by the Pakistani forces.

According to reports cross border firing and shelling was going on when reports last came in.

16 army men and civilians were also injured in the ceasefire violations by the Pakistani troops.
