It's at the top of Brad Keselowski's bucket list - to win a Monster Energy NASCAR Series race at Michigan International Speedway. Right now just three drivers will qualify for the playoffs on points and should another different victor emerge this weekend, the battle for the final playoff spots really intensifies. Michgian's wide track fits Kyle Larson's style perfectly as he is known to use every inch of a racetrack in search of the fastest groove. We are not in bad shape, but with so many drivers with victories, that puts us pretty much in a box where we have to win. After qualifying 13th on Friday, crew chief Cole Pearn continually made the #78 vehicle better posting the 10th and 2nd fastest speeds in the final two practices on Saturday. A possible side trip on Saturday night to Knoxville, Iowa to race in the Knoxville Nationals sprint auto event could provide extra motivation or could become a distraction. "We've got to have him win here Sunday in MI, too, in the NASCAR race".
With four wins this season, Martin Truex Jr.is taking the series by storm. Truex was second (200.172mph) followed by Logano, Blaney, Kyle Busch, Earnhardt, Larson, Hamlin, Suarez and Jamie McMurray. There's a lot of opportunity that arises in those moments. Ellliott is listed at 10-1 odds this weekend and he will be looking to unseat Kyle Larson to get that elusive first Monster Energy Cup Series victory on Sunday.
Check out my DFS NASCAR cheatsheet which includes Track History (2-Year Trend & Career), Track Type History (2-Year Trend), Current Form, Practice/Qualifying Data, and a weighted system to get an overall rank for each driver each race. His average finish of 13th is seventh best amongst the current drivers. But Busch has won six poles this season - twice as many as any other driver. Elliott has yet to win at MIS, but he has finished second in all three races he's had their in his career.
(22) Joey Logano, Ford, 203.063 miles per hour.
Looking at the results from both MI and Fontana since the start of 2015, it has been Chase Elliott leading the way as he has yet to finish outside the Top 10 at a two-mile track. "It's a special track for me to have any kind of success at", he said.
"We've got some really good memories here".
"We came into the weekend thinking that some of those really strong cars would tune it down and knowing that we probably were pretty close to what we had the last few weeks", Keselowski said Friday.
Earnhardt Jr.is winless over the past two seasons, and he has only four top-10 finishes this year.
Keselowski is locked into the playoffs, but Logano isn't.
