Texas' Senior US Senator stressed the importance of the North American Free Trade Agreement or NAFTA following President Donald Trump's comments at a rally in Arizona predicting a termination of the agreement.
And now, on Sunday, Trump calls NAFTA "the worst trade ever made", adding that the concerned countries - Canada and Mexico - are hard.
Trump reopened negotiations of the 1994 treaty out of concern USA economic interests were suffering.
Speaking at a campaign rally last week in Arizona, the president said he didn't believe the USA could reach an agreement to renegotiate the trilateral trade deal.
"Personally, I don't think we can make a deal because we have been so badly taken advantage of", Trump said.
Trump is also taking to Twitter to press the need for his promised southern border wall, tweeting that Mexico will pay for it "through reimbursement/other". "Mexico will remain at the table with serenity, firmness and with the national interest ahead".
The US Trade Representative, Robert Lighthizer notified Congress of their intentions to revamp their pact with Canada and Mexico, which accounts for $1 trillion in annual trade.
The talks will move to Canada later in September, then return to the United States in October, with additional rounds planned for later this year.
