Vern Henning and an unknown man stopped on the interstate to pull the driver and his dog out of the burning wreckage.

If you witnessed this accident or have any information you are asked to contact the Overland Park Police Traffic Safety Unit at 913-895-6300. It bursts into flames on landing.

The driver was trapped for a moment, but a team of good Samaritans rushed to help and was able to rescue him. Both she and another driver, whom she described as a stranger in his 20s, stopped to help, while other cars drove right by through the thick smoke.

Investigators believe a medical problem may have contributed to the crash, in which a westbound tractor-trailer rammed into a concrete elevated roadway support. The driver had a few burn marks, but appeared to be okay otherwise.

The Kansas City Star reports the crash is the latest of several wrecks along the same stretch of highway, where a major fix project is under way.
