Coming off a four-game, home-and-home sweep by in-state rival St. Louis, the Royals continue their eight-game road trip against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
The White Sox officially called up pitcher Reynaldo Lopez on Friday, paving the way for him to start Friday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Lopez and fellow right-handers Dane Dunning and Lucas Giolito joined Chicago from the Washington Nationals in a December 2016 trade for Adam Eaton.
Outfielder David Holmberg was optioned to Charlotte to clear room on the team's 25-man roster.
White Sox left-hander Aaron Bummer (1-2) earned his first major league win, striking out two in two innings of one-hit relief. Yolmer Sanchez had two RBIs, and Kevan Smith doubled in a run. Kansas City starter Danny Duffy (7-8) allowed five runs and seven hits in his second straight loss.
The Kansas City Royals are in a tailspin that has them back at the.500 mark, but they have a chance to turn things around with a pair of last-place clubs up next on the schedule.
Lopez allowed two runs - both on Moustakas' homers. Fans offered Cabrera a warm ovation when lineups were announced.
