Should the Dodgers get to the World Series, Granderson would be a prime candidate to be the team's desiginated hitter in the American League park.
The rich got richer Friday night when the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired veteran outfielder Curtis Granderson from the New York Mets.
After Granderson's trade was announced, he recalled that when he signed with the Mets, he was sold on a vision by General Manager Sandy Alderson that the team would become a victor soon.
A three-time All-Star with the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees, the 36-year-old Granderson was batting.228 with 19 home runs and an.815 OPS in 111 games for the Mets.
Granderson joined a list of ex-Mets to have been traded in the past month that includes outfielder Jay Bruce, infielder Neil Walker, first baseman Lucas Duda and reliever Addison Reed, as the team sets its sights toward next season and beyond. Darvish is the big name, but Granderson could easily prove to be the most important acquisition if he's a stabilizing force in the outfield and provides the production manager Dave Roberts is looking for. As things stand, Granderson is earning $15 million in the final year of his contract before he hits the open market this winter, per Spotrac. In 1,760 career games, Granderson tallied 1,641 hits, 312 homers, and 853 RBIs.
"It's been a great four years with the Mets organization", Granderson said. He's also played in 51 postseason games, tied for the 14th most among active players.
The Dodgers (86-34) are on pace to tie the major league record for wins in a season with 116. But in 71 games since May 21, Granderson has hit.276 with a.300 on-base percentage and.603 slugging percentage thanks to 31 extra-base hits (13 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs).
