Tottenham have had a bid rejected for Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial, according to a reliable journalist.

The 21-year-old Martial showed signs of promise during his first season with the Red Devils in 2015-16 and went on to score 11 Premier League goals for the club.

However, Bouhafsi explained that Jose Mourinho's side have knocked back the possibility of the forward, who is renowned for his electric pace, moving to north London this summer.

The report suggests that United have wasted little time in turning down the offer from last season's Premier League runners-up, with Jose Mourinho clearly rating the France global and having a role for him at Old Trafford this season.

Martial has been in impressive form for Manchester United during pre-season, but is down the pecking order with Lingard and Henrik Mkhitaryan trusted more by Mourinho.

France's RMC, via L'Equipe, report Tottenham have tried to take advanatge of this uncertainty and submitted an offer to Manchester United.

The Premier League runners-up begin the new campaign at Newcastle on Sunday.

They have also retained an interest in Balde Keita of Lazio but the offer from Martial comes as Tottenham look to secure up to three signings before August's transfer deadline in just three weeks.
