Special counsel Robert Mueller's office has reportedly asked the White House to hand over documents in relation to President Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
The document request was not a formal subpoena.
The Times reported that prosecutors have been investigating Flynn's business dealings with a Turkish-American businessman who worked with Flynn a year ago, and are trying to determine if the Turkish government was behind payments to Flynn.
Neither has the White House or Flynn's attorney responded to the recent reports on Mueller's investigations but one of Trump's attorneys said, "We've said before we're collaborating with the special counsel on an ongoing basis".
This special prosecutor investigation mainly on the charges of interference of Russia in the presidential campaign of 2016, which saw the victory of Mr. Trump and on suspicion of collusion between the campaign team of Mr. Trump and Russian officials.
The Republican president fired Flynn in February after it became clear that he had falsely characterized the nature of phone conversations he had with the Russian ambassador to Washington in December.
According to the daily new yorker, the investigators have also interviewed witnesses to determine whether Mr. Flynn had received payments secrets on the part of the Turkish government towards the end of the election campaign of 2016.
"The White House will not be discussing any specific communications with the Special Counsel out of respect for the Special Counsel and his process".
Flynn declined to comment on the New York Times report, while Trump's special counsel Ty Cobb stressed that the White House was cooperating with the probe.
