He said as the security forces were conducting searches, the militants opened firing on them which was retaliated by the law enforcement personnel, triggering a gunfight.
Gun fight broke out between a group of militants and the security forces in Awneera village of Jammu and Kashmir's southern Shopian district on Saturday evening.
Reports said that 55 RR of Army and SOG of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched cordon in the village over the specific intelligence of militant presence.
Police said three militants are believed to be holed up inside the village.
SSP Shopian, A.S Dinkar told the Kashmir Monitor that the "operation against militants is on". The Army quickly launched a search operation in the area but no arrests were made, the police sources said. Police strongly denied rumours that a mosque was damaged during the gunfight between the security forces and the militants.
One person was injured when a petrol bomb was thrown at Badyari Chowk in Srinagar, police said.
Clashes had erupted in Noorpora on Friday evening during cordon and search operation.
