The CBI on Tuesday filed a supplementary charge sheet against RJD leader Mohammad Shahabuddin over his alleged involvement in the criminal conspiracy and murder of journalist Rajdeo Ranjan in Bihar previous year. Sunil Singh Rawat, the investigating officer of the case, and Public Prosecutor Deep Narayan submitted the chargesheet against Shahabuddin and six others before CBI judge Anupam Kumari, PTI reported.

The four-time RJD MP from Siwan is alleged to have been involved in the murder of Ranjan, a journalist of a prominent Hindi newspaper in Siwan a year ago. He gave conflicting versions during custodial interrogation and the agency informed the special CBI court in Muzzafarpur about the development, sources said. Bihar police had charge-sheeted six persons in the case before the investigation was taken over by the agency.

The CBI has charged Shahabuddin, now lodged in Tihar Jail, under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections related to criminal conspiracy and murder and provisions of Arms Act.

The journalist who worked for Hindi daily Hindustan was shot dead by motor-borne shooters in May past year while he was returning to his home from office in the evening. "The CBI team told the court that it had enough evidence against Shahabuddin and other accused", Sinha said.

Earlier on May 26, a court in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district accepted the CBI plea for questioning Shahabuddin in connection with the journalist's murder case. Laddan, who was denied bail by the CBI court, figures in the charge sheet.
