The company also claims that Samsung Pay won't be supported with Maestro cards, and that support should arrive by December 2018, after all the cards are replaced.

According to the report, Samsung Pay now works on 2.5 million point of sales (POS) machines.

South Korean tech giant announced during an event in Mumbai that its Samsung Pay payment platform will now be available for holders of higher variants of SBI debit cards.

According to Rajnish Kumar, managing director at SBI, the bank has 270 million active debit cardholders, of which 130 million cardholders will be immediately eligible to make payments through Samsung Pay.

Samsung's MST replicates a card swipe by wirelessly transmitting magnetic waves from the supported Samsung device to a standard card reader.

The extension of Samsung Pay shows that India is actively embracing technological advancements.
