Kicking things off will be a matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and #New York Giants from MetLife Stadium. He's been playing faster and with more confidence in the offense.

"It felt great", Smith said of his knee.

Engram caught one pass for 11 yards but the focus after his 23 snaps in the 20-12 preseason loss to the Steelers was his blocking, a supposed weakness in college at Ole Miss, where he was not asked to do much in-line blocking. He was targeted twice overall.

He's just a football player. This feeling, this dream come true. "To be out here with these guys, it was really exciting". I can't honestly put it into words. "It was just a really unique and unbelievable feeling".

Nugent, a 13-year vet, apparently had the inside track at camp the last few weeks and has played in some big games, but the Giants' like Rosas' power. On the first unofficial depth chart, Jay Bromley was listed on the first team opposite All-Pro Damon Harrison. "I think I held my own pretty good", Engram added.

"I feel like [being the starter is] the long-run goal, the long-term goal", Tomlinson said after this first preseason game. "It's a good starting point and I look forward to getting better next week".

In the meantime, he has a talented group on defense to mentor him. However, once Dobbs got over the clearly present nerves, he began to show the strengths that stood out to Pittsburgh on draft day. At any rate, if Hamilton continues to make plays like he did tonight, he will be on somebody's roster.

JOSH AND GENO: Johnson and Smith had their ups and downs in the battle for the No. 2 job behind Manning. Smith took over late in the first half, and Webb anchored. We didn't deem it was appropriate because of lack of prep to play in this game. Finally, players such as Knile Davis, Arthur Moats, and Miles Hilton came to play and made cases for advancement in the team's plans for 2017. "He did fairly well". It looked like the G-Men might be able to have a productive night on the ground. The longest run was from wide receiver Travis Rudolph, who gained 19 yards on reverse.

"He's everything that I expected", Perkins said of Gallman earlier in camp. With his team deep in Pittsburgh territory, Smith underthrew Jerrel Adams and suffered the first of his three sacks. Out of the shotgun on his first play, Smith hit a pass over the middle for 15 yards. On the next defensive play, Watt went unblocked and didn't fall for the run fake, resulting in a one-on-one tackle of Johnson.

The two holes created by departures - Johnathan Hankins to the Colts via free agency and Kelvin Sheppard still unsigned and on the market - were filled admirably by Goodson and defensive tackle Jay Bromley on Friday night. McAdoo likes the competition building from that second group, particularly on the right side.
