Manchester United will be determined to start winning games more often at Old Trafford and should get off with a victory on Sunday.
The Belgium striker, a £75 million ($97.6 million, 82.5 million euros) signing from Everton, struck either side of half-time to take his tally of goals against West Ham to 11 in his last 11 appearances. The final spot in the centre of the defence looks like it'll be contested between Smalling and Phil Jones, but it's expected that the former will be preferred in the opener.
The box-to-box midfielder struggled during Manchester United's 2-1 loss to Champions League holders Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup on Tuesday night. "We hope it is a good year for him and the team".
RWB - Antonio Valencia (c): As Nemanja Matić gears up for an inevitable start in the anchor man role behind the midfield, Valencia will most likely be the man to take the captain's armband off Michael Carrick.
The frontline proved to be wasteful in front of goal despite a plethora of chances last season that resulted in many draws. Lukaku will need service to be successful, and Matic's arrival will give Paul Pogba greater freedom to join the attack, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan is looking to improve on a so-so debut season at Old Trafford.
Romelu Lukaku marked his Premier League debut for Manchester United with a first half goal against West Ham as the Belgian striker began repaying his British record transfer fee.
Moments later Paul Pogba fired in the fourth after he was slipped in by Martial to complete the rout. The dynamic Frenchman was unfortunate to not have a higher 2016/17 return, considering he hit the woodwork an astonishing nine times in all competitions. The signing of Romelu Lukaku, a small-game specialist at this stage of his career, should certainly help.
For United, long term absentees Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young are the only players unavailable.
On this early evidence, United now have a focal point whose talents suit their desired style of play and one who can bring out the best of those around him.
