Bloomberg reported that Kagame received nearly 99 per cent of ballots in the August 4 vote, extending his 17-year rule after a 2015 referendum backed amending the constitution to remove a two-term limit.
It is important for Rwandans and our fellow Africans to feel reassured that attacks on our character only make us stronger, provided we respond with clarity and conviction. There is no one-size-fit-all nation-building.
He said a section of Rwandan leaders and citizens have worked incredibly to build the nation from its previous devastated form to being a developed country.
"Africa is on the right path, and we are going to do just fine, " the 59-year-old said during a ceremony in the capital, Kigali.

Kagame, who swept to a landslide victory in Rwanda's presidential election, securing a third term in office and extending his 17 years in power, arrived at the stadium accompanied by the First Lady, Jeannette Kagame.
Kagame won the August 4, presidential elections after garnering 98.7% of the votes against opposition party leader Frank Habineza and the only independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana.
Among those attending the ceremony was Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for genocide crimes committed against humanity.
Uhuru's visit to Rwanda was geared towards strengthening partnerships especially in infrastructure development.
The statement read, "Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, is attending the presidential inauguration of President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, taking place today in Kigali, the country's capital".
The Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe, Patrice Emery Trovoada is also representing his country for the swearing-in including the Vice-President of Ivory Coast, Daniel Kablan Duncan; and Acting Vice-President of the Gambia and Minister of Women's Affairs, Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang.
