The doughnut shop owners have been cooperating fully with health inspectors and are working on deep cleaning the business, Zgodinski said. If you or anyone you know ate something from Mama C's Donuts & Coffee recently and have experienced the symptoms of norovirus, please contact the health department at 419-213-4264 or 419-213-4161.

The store in the Toledo suburb of Maumee closed after knowing 214 people got infected and felt sick due to their food.

According to a report by The (Toledo) Blade newspaper and television news station in the area, people who ate the food between the days of August 4 and August 7 became ill with the well-known norovirus symptoms. Like the Health Department said, some customer could be sick and touch the counter.

The health officials tested individuals from the restaurant according to WTOL-TV Channel 11, a CBS affiliate news station in the city.

"I was texted Sunday morning about 2 a.m. or so that there was something going on".

A norovirus outbreak tied to a local OH doughnut shop has sickened more than 200 people, including 15 young children at an eight-year-old's birthday party.

13abc spoke an employee who answered the phone at Mama C's Wednesday morning.

Health department officials became aware of the norovirus outbreak when local hospitals notified them about a number of people who became ill after eating Mama C's food from August 4 through August 7. Twelve people are sick with norovirus in that county.

Some have taken to Mama C's Facebook page to reveal that they were affected by the norovirus.

The health department got three positive resutls for norovirus after testing specimens.

The virus can cause inflammation in the stomach and intestines, causing stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Sometimes people additionally have a low-grade fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, and a general sense of tiredness.

Symptoms typically present itself 24 to 48 hours after exposure to the virus and may last for one to two days. An affected person could still spread the virus even two weeks after the symptoms go away.

The health department spokesperson tells 13abc she hopes to have more information in the coming days. It can pass on through direct contact, like shaking hands, kisses, shared drinks, or just a normal-distance conversation.
