"Ministry of Health (MOH) is always sensitive and caring about things that can threaten the consumers health".

Contamination was found in wholesale products used in the restaurant industry that had come from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Poland, AGES said, without elaborating.

While untainted eggs were back on the shelves in many shops across the country, Dutch farmers told AFP they were still dealing with the fallout over eggs that were found to contain the insecticide fipronil.

Fipronil can damage the kidney and liver if eaten in large quantities.

Eggs contaminated with an insecticide risky to humans were discovered in 15 European Union countries and two countries outside of the European Union by Friday last week.

It is commonly used to treat fleas and ticks in pets, but is banned for use on animals which are part of the human food chain.

The Dutch authorities on Thursday arrested two directors of the company at the center of the food safety scare, with prosecutors saying they suspected them of threatening public health and possession of a prohibited pesticide.

Along with a halt on import permits, the Ministry has also informed veterinary specialists at veterinary quarantine areas along border points to intensify their inspections and increase their inspection procedures by taking samples of all eggs that are sent from European countries that reach the Sultanate due to previously issued permits.
