But Leicester have turned out to be tough negotiators and have rebuffed multiple offers from Roma, insisting that they won't sell Mahrez unless they get the right price for him.

The Serie A side have seen three bids - the latest a club-record £31.8m - rejected by the Foxes.

Now Roma are set to wait and see if Leicester will relent over the 26-year-old Algeria global who has attracted interest from Arsenal, Monaco and Barcelona in the past.

Roma director of football Monchi has insisted that the club will not be submitting any higher bids for Leicester City's wantaway winger Riyad Mahrez.

"We won't bid again".

Leicester City have so far shown no intention of giving in to Roma, and don't want to provide Monchi with another transfer victory. Now the ball is in their court.

"We are not making any effort to sign the player, but at the moment we are still waiting on a positive result. We're working on other options but we're relaxed given our squad is 90% complete".

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare praised Riyad Mahrez's focus in Friday's 4-3 defeat to Arsenal, despite uncertainty over the Algerian's future.

"And as long as I get that he'll be considered for selection and I have no qualms about picking him against Arsenal".

Asked if he expected the 26-year-old to stay - after a thrilling Premier League opener - Shakespeare said: "Who knows?"
