Among the injured are Sumit Singh, conductor of the bus, Sukhpreet, Mohan Kumar Mishra, Mohd Abrar, Ananda (all are mechanics) and Bhubneshwar Jha (another mechanic who was on the bike).
"We have arrested the 54-year-old truck driver, identified as Karan, after he was discharged from the hospital".
As per the police, Pramod Kumar, the bus driver, halted the bus and requested the passengers to de-board. "Conductor Sumit Kumar and five mechanics were admitted in Safdarjung hospital", Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Mahadeo Dumbere said. The bus had broken down and Pramod had called a mechanic to fix the bus.
According to police, the incident took place at 12.30 am near the Madhuban Chowk underpass. "We are probing if he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident", the DCP said. "You are entitled to raise such issues as leader of Opposition but is it necessary to go where a family is waiting for the body of the deceased and shout slogans?"
Meanwhile, North Delhi Mayor Preety Agarwal Friday visited the accident site and demanded that the government pay a compensation of Rs 1 crore each to the kin of the two victims.
"I met and paid my condolences to the families of the deceased DTC drivers". I met the family members of the victims who had gathered at the depot.
The Chairman-cum-General Manager (CGM) of the DTC visited the Rohini depot along with other officials, said a senior official of the public transporter, adding an inquiry will be conducted by the DTC into the incident. "The Delhi government should not only award compensation of Rs. 1 crore each to the family of the victims, it should also offer jobs to their kin", she told journalists at her office. Two mechanics, among the injured, are working with a private company, the official said.
