This comes on the heels of coach Doug Marrone's comment last Thursday that the quarterback job, where Bortles had been the incumbent, was up for grabs. "I'm just looking to see who can lead from that position".
Jaguars brass thought their longstanding quarterback woes were solved when Bortles was drafted third overall in 2014.
"I feel like at the end of the day as long as we're jelling together, because Chad's in there, Blake's in there, I don't think we pay any mind who's under center", right guard A.J. Cann said.
"I guess I speak for the whole team when I say that we're trusting him to make those decisions because that's what he's supposed to do, put the best person in the game that's going to lead us to where we want to be".
The progress Bortles made in his first two seasons stopped in 2016.
-Jaguars brought in a couple of kickers for a workout but they're going to stay with Jason Myers for now. He has completed just 58.8 percent of his passes as a pro, throwing 51 interceptions in 46 games.
Bortles had been the franchise's unquestioned starter for almost three years. Marrone added he also hasn't talked about Bortles not being on the team in Week 1.
By now, he has been dissected more than a frog in a high school biology class. Thanks to an uninspiring performance vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it is time to end the Blake Bortles experiment. Because Bortles and Henne don't have drastically different styles, nobody's job changes if one is on the field over the other. Reading the tea leaves, there may be as good of a chance that Bortles is cut before the start of the regular season as there is him the being starter in Houston.
It's likely that Bortles and Henne will split first-team reps this week and that both could play a quarter in the first half of the Carolina game, with whoever looks better taking the majority of snaps in the third quarter as well.
The ratings are out for Thursday's preseason game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneersand Jacksonville Jaguarsand they're as bad as one would expect, possibly worse. The Jaguars picked up Bortles' fifth-year option for 2018 that is guaranteed for injury only.
However, O'Halloran called the chances of Allen starting the season opener against the Houston Texans on September 10 "unlikely" and pointed to the task of facing a loaded defense featuring J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney. "I really don't think that has to be explained".
Henne is 11-of-16 passing for 183 yards, with a touchdown. If not, Henne shows the ability to connect on big passes and becomes less of a check-down QB than when he first started sitting on the bench two-plus years ago. That means we'll see more of Derek Anderson, Joe Webb and Garrett Gilbert again.
