Giroud came off the bench with Arsenal trailing 3-2 in Friday's Premier League curtain-raiser at the Emirates Stadium and after fellow substitute Aaron Ramsey equalised, he headed in an 85th-minute victor.
"When the substitutes came on they had enough quality to make the difference". It was one of the great days for me in recent weeks [when he said he would stay].
With the first Premier League match in the books this term, how did pundits, supporters and players react on Twitter to Arsenal versus Leicester?
Giroud appears willing - if a little reluctantly - to accept his role as an understudy to Lacazette.
"With Lacazette, it is simple", the French tactician said, as quoted by FourFourTwo.
Despite only starting 17 games last season in all competitions, Giroud still scored 16 times - including an eye-catching scorpion-style kick against Crystal Palace.
The 30-year old put his side 2-1 ahead of Arsenal in the 29th minute after a goal from Okazaki had cancelled Lacazette's opener.
Following Danny Welbeck's leveller in first-half stoppage time, another corner yielded Leicester's third goal as Riyad Mahrez's cross was headed home by Vardy. Both teams haven't been on the top of their game in the English Premier League but history precedes the Gunners and the Foxes as they play each other to start their Premier League on a good note.
At one stage I opened the door for him to go as I knew I had many strikers, and in the end he made a decision to stay.
Giroud was quick to hail it and told Sky Sports after the match: "Obviously I knew that I was going to have a chance so we tried to push".
"Insecurity goes quickly through a team and we had many experienced defenders out tonight - Koscielny, Mustafi, Mertesacker".
