We open with Daenerys, with dragon looming behind her, talking to some Lannisters.
HBO has released the preview for Episode 5 of Game of Thrones and it teases yet another Stark family reunion.
It ended with the Dothraki horde and Dany's dragon, having laid waste to a whole field of Lannister soldiers, with Jaime Lannister very almost meeting his end, and Drogon taking a spear to the breast. Before I started I went to lunch with David Nutter, who is another director who has done some incredible work on the show.
The last two photos bring us back to the mainland, where we see Cersei looking contemplative in her private quarters. Jaime made a bold run at Daenerys while she was trying to pull out the sword from her injured dragon. It's worth noting that there is a touch of madness in the Targaryen blood, especially when it comes to fire. I'd love to see Bran tell Jon of his true parentage, but Bran seems above those trivial matters. The paintings and carvings on the wall also back up Jon's claim that the White Walkers are real.
I would give just about anything to hang out on the set of this show. I think there absolutely is a political storyline that's really important, which is Jon desperately trying to convince Daenerys and everyone else that the threat that is more important than who is fighting for the Iron Throne is the fight for humanity, and that this real, unsafe force is heading for them all. Will Drogo bond with Jon Snow in a way that will make Daenerys reconsider her stance toward the King of the North?
Many things happen in Game of Thrones that make us wonder: 'What was George R.R. Martin thinking?'
Jon and Daenerys initial meeting was much more tense than fans had predicted but they've grown closer and shared a hugely important scene in the cave.
The title of the episode nearly certainly refers to something not seen in these images, but referenced in the preview that aired on Sunday: the arrival of White Walkers at the far-northern port of Eastwatch. "I think they're both probably records".
