Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud staked a claim for a starting place with the victor in a thrilling season-opening 4-3 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League on Friday.

Two late goals, one from Aaron Ramsey and one from Olivier Giroud, brought the Gunners back from a one-goal deficit in the final 10 minutes, giving the club a positive result to start the season.

While Lacazette netted the opener after two minutes against Leicester on Friday, a collapse left Arsenal trailing with seven minutes remaining.

The impressive Vardy scored his second in the 53rd minute to put Leicester in front once more, curling Riyad Mahrez's corner into the bottom far corner amid poor Arsenal marking. I opened the door for him because I know it's important for him to play but I don't want him to go.

Arsenal is not just pursuing a first league title since 2004 but also a return to the top four - and Champions League qualification - after finishing fifth in May. I know how important he is not only as a player but also in the group he has a big weight. I love the man and the player [Giroud] and he doesn't want to leave and I'm happy that he wants to stay.

Arsenal shipped three goals but were without arguably three of their first-choice defenders as Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi all sat out due to a combination of fitness and suspension.

"The first goal was from a short corner and we were not focused enough".

The French global has been linked with an exit from the Emirates over the summer, and to the delight of Arsenal fans Marseille boss Rudi Garcia most recently revealed that they had ended their pursuit of the striker.

"Rob Holding is a great defender but he lost some of his confidence after the second goal".

"Previously in the Premier League we've not got off to the best of starts, so it meant a lot for us to get a good start and get three points today".

"I think we have all seen the amusing business of the transfer window and we never know what is round the corner".
