Earlier this week Moss posted to her Instagram a message to fans of her current series, "The Handmaid's Tale".
Elisabeth Moss has clarified her comments about 'The Handmaid's Tale' being a "human story" rather than a "feminist one", admitting that her previous statement was "a mistake".
In the series, Gilead is a religious oligarchy formed after a nuclear war that controls what women can say and do.
"Love this adaptation so much", wrote Instagram user moelybanks.
"There is no misconception about Scientology it is a cult and in fact you do not speak with Leah Remini because of this cult you're in", wrote @mskimm. 'Gilead and Scientology both believe that all outside sources (aka news) are wrong and evil... it's just very interesting'. The most important things to me probably. And so Gilead and THT hit me on a very personal level. "Thanks for the interesting question!" followed by a kiss blowing emoji.
Moss' defense of the controversial religion comes just over a week after Leah Remini, a former Scientologist who's been extremely vocal in her opposition to the church, was asked about potentially crossing paths with the actress.
According to People, Moss' family introduced her to Scientology. Her series is nominated for a best informational series or special Emmy.
"Thank you for taking the time to try and explain a little", the commenter wrote. "Either way, you do you and imma do me and if that makes us happy i supposed that's all that matters".
"It doesn't surprise me (that it's always mentioned) because I think if there was anything unusual, it would be there (in a piece about me)", she said. During a previous interview with HuffPost US, she said: "Anything that brings feminism into the spotlight, anything that brings reproductive rights into the spotlight, is a great thing".
The "Handmaid's Tale" star made a decision to slam everyone who dares to criticize her religion. I don't really want to talk about this... However, don't expect her to be more open about the subject. I get the fascination.
The actress has refused to break her silence about being a member of the Church for years, but it looks like she has finally snapped.
