Brewers infield prospect Julio Mendez, age 20, is in critical but stable condition after being struck in the torso by a pitch during Arizona League play on Saturday night.
CPR was administered by medical staff on site before Mendez was transported to a local hospital. The game was called after Mendez suffered the cardiac event. Mendez fell to the ground after being hit. "It's a very scary situation, and we're thinking about him and trying to get updates".
The Brewers said Sunday that the 20-year-old, who plays for their rookie club in the developmental Arizona League, was in a critical but stable condition.
Eyewitness accounts posted to Twitter and online message boards describe a hard scene including CPR and defibrillators being used to revive Mendez.
Mendez has been with the Brewers' organization since 2014.
Krzeminski asked for prayers for Mendez on social media following the incident, and others also tweeted their well-wishes.
