Shortly after Mass Effect: Andromeda launched to some sales success but middling critical reception, EA started shifting things around at its developer, BioWare Montreal.
The following statement was given to IGN by EA: "The teams in EA Worldwide Studios are packed with talent, and more than ever, we're driving collaboration between studios on key projects".
BioWare Montreal is now completely merged with EA Motive, and working with them on their projects.
"This is an ongoing process, but there are many exciting roles and opportunities for everyone on the team". Now EA has officially confirmed that Bioware Montreal will merge, though the team will be staying close to home, merging with Jade Raymond's Star Wars studio, EA Motive. This is to build the new IP around Jade Raymond's team that she's been building.
Last week, Mass Effect trilogy producer and longtime face of BioWare, Casey Hudson, return to lead the studio after former general manager Aaryn Flynn departed. Motive Studios, who are working on the single-player campaign for the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront II, is also located in Montreal.
It is worth noting that Bioware Montreal and EA Motive shared an office floor in the same building already. What this means for the future of the franchise is something that remains to be seen. BioWare Austin, on the other hand, is still the main studio supporting Knights of the Old Republic, while also giving Edmonton a hand with Anthem.
"BioWare continues its work on new titles - including the highly-anticipated game, Anthem", EA's statement continued. Its release date is now scheduled for late next year.
