Fake social media post claims North Korea attack imminent

Guam Governor Eddie Calvo said the remote Pacific island was accustomed to being a target ever since Washington placed military installations there.

Jenna Gaminde told a press briefing on Thursday that the residents would be immediately notified by the 15 All-Hazards Alert Warning System sirens, located in low-lying areas throughout the island, the Pacific Daily News reported.

North Korea has threatened to launch a strike on the US territory with “medium-to-long-range strategic ballistic missiles”, according to KCNA.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says he will do everything he can to protect the Japanese people as tensions escalate over North Korean plans to send missiles flying over Japan toward Guam.

“Our office will be notified from the military and will utilize all forms of mass communication to get the message out to the public”.

But it’s not the same talk of impending crisis you hear from politicians on the United States mainland, a place where Guam is rarely seen on the news.

“I think people are just stunned and really don’t know what to think”, Todd Thompson said. An air base with long-range bombers and a naval base that’s home port for fast-attack submarines are among the most “strategically important” the USA has in the Pacific, according to the CIA World Factbook.

Japan has in the past vowed to shoot down North Korean missiles or rockets that threaten to hit its territory. If carried out, it would be the North’s most provocative missile launch to date.

The tension comes on the heels of an intelligence report that suggested North Korea has miniaturized nuclear weapons to fit on missiles.

The tropical island is a key strategic location in the western Pacific Ocean for the US military, but that also makes it a potential target as the closest American territory to North Korea. It’s very possible the North could attack Japan and US bases there with nuclear, chemical or biological warheads.

Yesterday, Trump said that his threat earlier this week to unleash “fire and fury” on Pyongyang, if it launched an attack, may not have been tough enough.

The North Korean statement also says the military action its army “is about to take” will be effective for restraining America’s “frantic moves” in and near the southern part of the Korean Peninsula.

“If there was to be conflict in this region, understand that there is an archipelago, 600 miles long called the Marianas that encompasses two United States territories – Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas”, he said.

“We have to understand that even in a million-to-one scenario we have to be prepared with Guam being what it has been for decades, an American territory with strategic military assets in place in a very dynamic region”. Trump said. He did not specify what they might be.

North Korea first fired a missile over Japan in 1998, prompting the Japanese government to initiate its current ballistic missile-defence system with the US.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command headquartered in Colorado makes the determination whether the missile poses a threat to the continental US. She said, “I don’t see a military solution and I don’t think it’s called for”. “It is very concerning that there are divisions inside the Trump administration in policy towards North Korea”. The fact that both President Trump and Kim Jong Un share a leadership style that values unpredictability raises chances of misunderstanding and/or misperception.

Earlier this week, Trump said the US would slam the North with “fire and fury like the world has never seen” if it provoked America again. “They’re not going to die here and (President Donald Trump) told me that to my face”.
