Abe told reporters that he praised Trump's commitment on North Korea and that he would make the utmost efforts to protect the Japanese public.
The United States does not want to call the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the recent North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch, US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said. Some have even misreported that we are seeking such a session.
The show of force followed North Korea running its second successful test launch in July of an intercontinental ballistic missile.
Some diplomats had expected the US, Japan and South Korea to ask for the 15-member UN Security Council to meet on Monday over the test. Haley said that the US saw "no point in having an emergency session if it produces nothing of consequence".
The United States has been in talks with North Korean ally China on a draft UN Security Council resolution to impose stronger sanctions on North Korea.
The county has been attempting to develop a missile capable of reaching the US. In fact, it is worse than nothing, because it sends the message to the North Korean dictator that the global community is unwilling to seriously challenge him.
On Saturday, President Donald Trump took to Twitter and said that the USA would "no longer allow this to continue".
"Done talking about NKorea.China is aware they must act.Japan & SKorea must inc pressure. Not only a USA problem. It will req an intl solution", Haley wrote on Twitter. We will no longer allow this to continue.
Also on Sunday, the US Missile Defense Agency announced the United States had successfully shot down a medium-range missile in the latest test of its THAAD missile defence program which is created to protect the country against potential threats from countries such as North Korea and Iran.
"China must decide whether it is finally willing to take this vital step", Haley said.
But on Saturday, Trump said on Twitter that he was "very disappointed in China" which he said profits from trade with the United States but does "NOTHING for us with North Korea, just talk". "In fact, it is worse than nothing, because it sends the message to the North Korean dictator that the worldwide community is unwilling to seriously challenge him".
