Dani Alves had a dream competitive debut as Paris St Germain beat Monaco 2-1 to win French football's Trophee des Champions curtain-raiser for the fifth successive year. I don't have to convince him about anything. But now is not a good time to discuss it.
"But right now we can not talk about Neymar before the game".
"Everyone knows what I think about Neymar". He is my friend, we have been playing together at worldwide level for seven years. We have a very open relationship. "This is the moment where he must decide".
"I'm happy with the players and their work, I have a lot of motivation to start the competition and this season".
After just 12 months in Turin, however, he opted to leave and join PSG - a move which has led to the press speculating that the full-back is chatting Neymar up over the possibility of joining him in Ligue 1 before the window slams shut in September.
"The season starts here for the whole team before the league gets underway next week", said Emery when quizzed about the Brazil global. "He can make a difference, he has enormous qualities, he is very intelligent and he is doing good for the team".
Another 180 million euros could travel into Monaco's coffers if they sell Kylian Mbappé.
Spanish sports daily Marca reported on Tuesday that an agreement had been reached "in principle" for Real Madrid to pay that amount for the 18-year-old.
Of course, the French global forward, who hails from the Paris suburbs, is also a target for PSG.
Monaco in the last season showed a brilliant game, went into the semifinals of the Champions League and confidently, brightly became the champion of France with 95 points in the asset and goal difference 107-31.
Three of Monaco's players have left the principality, though.
The match, which kicks off at 8pm local time (1900 GMT), brings together France's reigning champions and Cup holders and comes a week before the Ligue 1 season begins.
Of the pre-season encounter with Monaco, who in May ended PSG's run of four straight titles, Silva said: "It will be an interesting game, especially considering that they won the last championship". It came to Tangiers in 2011, when Marseille beat Lille 5-4, while bizarrely PSG beat Lyon previous year in an nearly empty stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria.
Going overseas is part of the French league's attempts to increase global interest in their competition, although bringing Neymar to Ligue 1 and keeping Mbappe there is surely a better way to attract attention from outside.
