In his first at-bat with the Giants organization in almost three years, Pablo Sandoval singled to left field against Rancho Cucamonga.
Sandoval was back in San Francisco today and spoke to reporters at AT&T Park about his minor league contract with the Giants and his decision to sign a five-year, $95 million deal with the Red Sox before 2015, just after winning his third World Series in the Bay Area. He'll now look to return to form with his former team. The River Cats host the Round Rock Express for four games beginning Tuesday.
"I have always loved and appreciated the Giants organization, my Giants teammates and the fans of San Francisco. I have the greatest moments of my career here, so to have a second chance is the most important thing", Sandoval said.
Sandoval, now 30 years old, spent the first seven years of his career in San Francisco, batting.294 with 106 homers amid battles with his weight and inconsistency. He has batted.344 in 39 postseason games.
Sandoval was the 2012 World Series MVP with the Giants but struggled since leaving San Francisco for Boston as a free agent.
The Red Sox released Sandoval on Wednesday when the third baseman didn't report after being designated for assignment last week.?It officially ended the Boston tenure for the slugger, who never was healthy enough to live up to the expectations. He has played in just 151 games over three seasons with the Red Sox, including 32 this season.
