Murphy is in no doubt that he wants to play under Benitez at Newcastle and, according to the Chronicle, has told his agent he wants the move.
It has been reported that Newcastle have increased their offer to £10 million in order to sign Murphy from Norwich in the summer transfer window.
The report also outlines that Benitez is finding it hard to find value in the current transfer market, because of the inflated fees being banded around in the Premier League, with even lower half clubs flush with money brought in from bumper prize money and television revenue agreements.
Would Norwich City accept the new offer?
Benitez will hope the Norwich man is the latest of a raft of additions to his ranks as he prepares for Newcastle's Premier League opener against Tottenham on August 13.
The winger featured 40 times in all competitions for the Canaries last season, scoring nine times, and that was enough to earn him a call up into the England under-21 squad for the European Championship last month.
Journalist Kasper Wikestad, of Norway's largest television broadcaster TV2, has claimed on his Twitter account that 22-year-old Murphy is set to trade the Championship for the Premier League on a three-year deal.
