The Vikings' have given no details of the violation, but an Arizona judge last month ordered Floyd to serve one day in jail for failing alcohol tests after a traffic stop past year.
Floyd told a court that he was drinking kombucha tea and unaware that it had alcohol, which he said caused him to fail his test.
The suspension is two games more than the National Football League minimum for such a violation.
The former first-round pick out of Notre Dame was released by the Arizona Cardinals two days after being arrested for a DUI charge in Scottsdale in December. However, he can take part in all of the team's practices and games during preseason.
"Do I believe it?" On June 10, Floyd failed three self-administered breathalyzer tests.
Floyd can return to the Vikings' active roster on October 2. This is likely due Floyd violating his house arrest and his blood-alcohol level being nearly three times the legal limit at the time of his DUI. According to ESPN.com, Zimmer told Floyd, "If I find out you're lying to me, I'm going to cut you". In addition to jail time, he was ordered not to drink alcohol, undergo alcohol counseling, perform 30 hours of community service and pay a fine of $5,115.99. The sixth-year veteran earned an additional day behind bars after he was found to have violated the terms of his house arrest by testing positive for alcohol. He did win a championship after he was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots, although he was inactive for the AFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl.
