Jon Bernthal dropped by the Marvel's The Defenders Hall H panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego today to surprise those in attendance, but he didn't come empty-handed. And it's exactly what you'd expect, for good or ill.

The sneak peek of The Punisher opens with a flashback of Frank Castle and his daughter before it cuts ahead to present day as he shoots and mows down a set of bikers while driving an SUV. The mournful moments don't last long, though, as we're then immediately shown Frank as he drives a vehicle over a man and his motorcycle. Because this is a show for adults. The camera then zips back to Frank, but it's revealed that he's actually in El Paso.

Lastly, we see Bernthal beating the almighty out of a sleazy business guy in a JFK airport bathroom stall.

This will shortly include the man in the stall, whom Frank finds and begins to strangle. The man pleads for his life telling Frank, "You've already taken care of everyone", before Frank says, "Not everyone".

"I think with Frank and with the world that he's very much involved in, he's a soldier, so I think there will be very much a military component of the show", he tells EW's Dalton Ross in the video above. Uh, holy shit. Did Frank just kill a man in another country without a remote controlled device? Yes.

It's violent and crude and pretty much what you'd think a Punisher show would look like.

The end of season 2 of Daredevil saw Castle go from the blind superhero's foe with differing opinions on justice to a reluctant ally, heading off on his own journey after the finale.
