Notice these are Legendary Birds from Gen 1 and Gen 2.
How do Pokemon Go Legendary Pokemon work?
Maybe this was a cheeky way of Niantic hinting that Mewtwo could be the very first legendary Pokemon to head to Pokemon Go.
If both of these quests succeed, legendary Pokemon will begin appearing all over the world. Some characters in the series also believed that the said Pokemon does not exist or claim that very few people have seen them. If they successfully defeat the legendary Pokemon and capture it, "Pokemon GO" players worldwide will then be able to catch the same legendary monster in their localities. This is possibly due to the fact that legendary Pokemon are tougher and stronger than ordinary Pokemon. If the new update will allow players to place Legendary monsters as Gym defenders, it would totally overpower its attackers.
Obviously, Niantic made some twists to make Legendary creatures hard to catch.
But, there might be one big surprise for Pokemon Go players. Once players are in the wild, they can look for unique legendary Pokemon eggs at gym locations anywhere.
Tech Crunch reported that a legendary Pokemon can be used in raids, gym battles and boss fights, but they cannot be assigned to defend a gym. If defeated, that legendary will start appearing for everyone on July 23 in special raid battles (so probably July 24 in Australia).
When will the Legendary Pokemon arrive?
Judging by how heavily Pokemon GO has emphasised the birds already - they are, after all, the emblems for the different teams - and judging by the trailer itself, it seems like a pretty good bet that the first legendary is going to be a bird.
The official Pokemon GO Fest website details what players can expect to fill their time without throughout the day, but emphasizes that this event will include thousands of Trainers in Grant Park, and millions from around the world.
Legendaries can not be assigned to defend a gym because it would clearly overpower the ordinary Pokemon and it would also be a game-breaking balance issue in Pokemon GO. In order for the legendary Pokemon to begin appearing, two things must happen.
