Following the untimely death of Interior Cabinet Secretary, Major Gen. Joseph Nkaissery President Uhuru Kenyatta on behalf of the government of Kenya, has sent a message of condolences to the family, friends and relatives, as well as the Maa community.
Kenyatta who addressed the nation in a televised news conference in Nairobi called on Kenyans to stand united as the results of the post-mortem are released.
Nkaissery's death, coming exactly a month to the General Election set for August 8, is a big blow to the nation due to the critical role he was playing in strategizing with top security chiefs to ensure a peaceful election.
Nkaissery, 68, a retired army officer, had held the position of cabinet secretary for interior and coordination of national government since late 2014.
"There shall be no vacuum in securing our country".
Matiang'i is now the cabinet secretary for education.
The Council of Governors (COG) describes the fallen hero Joseph Nkaissery as selfless, dedicated leader who did not compromise on security matters. "I personally have lost a friend and a colleague".
He further urged Kenyans to stay calm as they await the postmortem of the late Nkaissery to ascertain the cause of death.
According to a statement by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Joseph Kinyua, Nkaissery fell unwell and was rushed to the city hospital for check up but passed on a few hours later.
