The relationship between Tidal and some of its artists and co-owners has gotten a bit rocky as of late, with Billboard reporting that Kanye West has been seeking to end Tidal's exclusivity rights over his latest music and possibly break with the service entirely.
Kanye West has successfully run away from Tidal. What the split means for fans is no more Kanye Tidal exclusives, as all of his future music releases will become available elsewhere.
West alleges the album "resulted in 1.5 million new subscribers to Tidal, for which he was supposed to get a bonus but the company hasn't paid".
We'll have to see if Hov and Yeezy can fix their friendship, but for now, fans are certainly enjoying 4:44 in all of its glory.
Two sources also expand on what has probably been going through Jay's head since the rant, leading him to write the lyrics about Kanye on his 4:44 album.
But West may be washing his hands of streaming services entirely, Complex reported, in an effort to avoid limiting the initial reach of his music before it makes its way onto other platforms. In the opening track of the album, which was released Friday, Jay-Z raps, apparently about West, "This "f--k everybody" attitude ain't natural" and "You ain't the same".
