Omega Underground have seen the actor's name appear in crew recruitment for the upcoming Captain Marvel film, in which Brie Larson stars as the titular character. However, it wasn't clear in what capacity he might appear.
Christopher Marc at Omega Underground is reporting that Jackson will co-star with Brie Larson in Captain Marvel, which he says will begin production in Atlanta in January 2018.
Since both Fury and Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, have military backgrounds, it is possible Jackson may take on the role of mentor (or not, since this is just speculation) once more after Danvers is introduced in Avengers: Infinity War on May 4, 2018.
DC may have got the lead on female-lead superhero movies with Wonder Woman, but Marvel is planning their own version with Captain Marvel. The report also claims that shooting for the movie will begin January 8, 2018, which is pretty close to the start date that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously mentioned.
Now, after fifteen released movies (Spider-Man: Homecoming being the sixteenth this week), Several One-Shot films and multiple Network and Netflix television shows, we may have word that Nick Fury will be making a return after Infinity War. We saw him approach Tony Stark at the end of Iron Man.
Jackson and Larson certainly made for formidable foes in Jordan Vogt-Roberts' Kong: Skull Island earlier in the year, but if he yells "B*TCH PLEASE!" at her in this one, chances are he's likely to lose the other eye before the credits roll. That would fulfill Jackson's nine-movie contract, so this also hints at the possibility of an extension.
Captain Marvel is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck with a script by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve.
"Captain Marvel" is now scheduled to release in theatres on March 8, 2019.
