India has toppled United States (US) to become Facebook's largest country audience with a total of 241 million active users compared to US 240 million users.
The portal was quoting figures that the social media giant released to advertisers.
The city ranking is topped by Bangkok which is closely followed by Jakarta and Dhaka. However, now the spots have got exchanged and India now has the largest Facebook user base. Active users arrival in India was up 27 percent in the past six months as compared to 12 percent growth in the United States in the same period. This is clearly a direct impact of Reliance Jio. The report says that Indian men represent three-quarters (76 percent) of the Facebook user profiles.
India finally appears on the list of cities with the most users at number 6, with New Delhi showing 15 million active monthly users. On the other hand, out of 327 million USA residents, 287 million have access to the internet. (Source: Hootsuite) India and the U.S. account for 11 percent each of the total global monthly active users, followed by Brazil and Indonesia, 6% each. Men represent 76% of users in India, in contrast to the US, where active users of Facebook identifying as female represent 54% of total users. Facebook's active users in India also skew towards young, with more than half of the country's users below the age of 25. This clearly indicates that India still has a huge scope of improvement, whereas the United States is pretty much saturated already. There is only one to two percent 60 years+ active users.
