Jail officials have not said how the men escaped on Sunday. Seven of them were captured and returned the jail.
In 2014, Sheriff John Mark Tirey urged commissioners to put funding toward making repairs to the jail, especially after faulty cell doors led to the assault of two officers. "I'll shoot on site if I come across any of them", wrote a Facebook user after the Police department shared the escaped prisoners' information and photos.
The Walker County Sheriff's Office released a list of six prisoners they still were hunting for.
-Steven Blake Lamb, 28 - in jail for attempted murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree theft, reckless endangerment and probation revocations. Still missing is 24-year-old Brady Andrew Kilpatrick.
Jasper Police Department personnel joined the manhunt as authorities asked residents to stay indoors and to turn on outdoor lighting.
-Michael Adam McGuff, 30, of Jasper - in jail for third-degree escape and obstructing government operations.
Two of the escaped inmates were in prison for attempted murder, others were serving time for domestic violence, theft, and drug crimes.
Eight of the runaway inmates were rounded up by 10:45 p.m. local time, about four hours after breaking out of the Walker County Jail in Jasper, about 33 miles northwest of Birmingham.
The sheriff's office is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the capture of the inmates.
