BJP leader Nityanand Mahto was arrested on Saturday in connection with the mob lynching of a trader in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district.

On Thursday Alimuddin, also known as Asgar Ansari, was lynched in Ramgarh district, about 48 km north of Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand. He was stopped by a group of people near Bajartand village where he was attacked, lynched and his vehicle set on fire.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the complainants visited the police station with the screenshot of Rai's WhatsApp chat wherein, he had allegedly incited violence.
"It's premeditated murder", Mullik said. However, the police have contradicted his version and claimed that Mahto was not only present at the place of incident, but had also instigated the mob.
Modi had said: "Killing people in the name of Gau Bhakti is not acceptable". The arrest came a couple of days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged people to not take law in their hands during an address in Gujarat.
On Wednesday thousands of people gathered in various Indian cities to protest the rising attacks on Muslims by Hindu vigilante cow protection groups. The report further adds that as per the complaint, Rai was allegedly behind the violence in Giridih where a 60-year-old man was attacked and his house set on fire after a dead cow was found outside his house on June 27. In May, a mob lynched four Muslim cattle traders at a village in Saraikelka Kharswan district after accusing them of being child traffickers.
Cow slaughtering is a sensitive issue in India and sometimes flares up communal passions.
