Here, music director AR Rahman looks on as Chadha and Qureshi release the film's music.
"Given the subject matter of the film and the fact that it is a western and Indian film, I had one choice for the music and that was A R Rahman".
On whether the film with the "Quantico" actress will be an global project, Chadha said, "She has been producing films and I hope it is worldwide (the one that we do together)".
"But I kept on persuading him". Then I met him in Los Angeles and showed him a cut of the film. She points out that the musical journey with Rahman was not just of a director working with a composer, but "a spiritual journey". "We see how they talk, emote and how they act and not whom they pray to", she stresses. So, casting of this film ('Partition: "1947') was really about finding the right actor who can portray the character rightly". First, when she told me it's a film about Partition, I did not pay much attention. "She said "yes, let's work it out".
She, however, stated she has not discussed the idea of a film with Priyanka yet.
"This film is very important, especially for the younger generation who are very judgemental and sometimes have opinionated status. I am looking forward to making this movie with the boy who is a British-Pakistani", says Gurinder.
The film, which released as "Viceroy's House" outside India earlier this year and tells the story of India's partition, stars Huma Qureshi, Manish Dayal, late Om Puri, Denzil Smith, Huge Bonneville and Gillian Anderson among others. The filmmaker is now in India to promote her film Partition: 1947.
