A team with overflowing assets is getting another big one, with Gordon Hayward leaving the Jazz and going to Boston, ESPN reported Tuesday. Another July 4 declaration it is... But it could also mean something. It appeared that Hayward would make his choice on Monday for much of the afternoon, but he later opted to sleep on it.
In other words, one fan base - either that of Utah, Miami or Boston - will be celebrating tomorrow whereas the other two will be distraught.
Present in the meeting that lasted more than three hours were Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey, team president Steve Starks, coach Quin Snyder, ownership trustee Gail Miller along with Utah players Rudy Gobert and Joe Ingles.
It looks like there will be some free agency fireworks tomorrow regarding Hayward. According to Jones, this may also play a role in re-signing Hayward. For the first time in his career, Hayward will switch teams and his signing with the Celtics will turn Boston into one of the best teams in the East.
The Salt Lake City Tribune's Tony Jones added to the report, saying that the Jazz traded for Rubio specifically with Hayward in mind. Those are still pretty frightening odds. In the meantime, all we can do is wait on Hayward's decision. Living in a vacation destination could be a convincing factor for the family of a traveling National Basketball Association player.
Hayward's final visit will be with the Jazz.
