In another tweet this week, Mr. Trump had said: "After 7 months of investigations & committee hearings about my 'collusion with the Russians, ' nobody has been able to show any proof". Comey deemed that would wrong and refused to do it. Trump then fired Comey.
Meanwhile, the White House said on Thursday that it would have no comment about the revelation, with deputy Press Secretary Sarah Sanders simply referring all questions to the President's personal lawyer, Marc Kasowitz.
But Trump has publicly said he was going to fire Comey regardless of Rosenstein's recommendation. Former FBI head Robert Mueller was appointed as special counsel a day after a report stemming from the notes was published. In a series of tweets on Friday morning the president confirmed that he was being investigated for firing James Comey on May 9th.
Notably, James Comey, who was sacked by Trump last month, publicly testified this month that Trump had told him to ease off on his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who was under the FBI investigation for his Russian links.
Trump is under increasing pressure on the Russian Federation probe.
USA media had reported that Trump is personally being probed.
It's a shift in the FBI investigation, which previously focused on Russian hacking during the election, possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian officials, and possible financial crimes by Trump associates. The transition, a nonprofit structurally separate from the Trump campaign, continues to operate with a small staff. Trump tweets. Echoing tweets from Thursday, he concludes by adding: "Witch Hunt".
