In a concert filled with emotional moments onstage at Ariana Grande's #OneLoveManchester benefit concert, it was something which happened offstage that is fast getting the most attention.
According to official consolidated figures - which includes catch-up and other services - the most-watched programme of the year was the Broadchurch finale, broadcast in April, with 11.6 million viewers. The benefit concert was organized to honor the 22 victims who were killed by a suicide bomber when Grande's "Dangerous Woman" tour let out on May 22. Various streams were also shown on Twitter and Facebook.
The concert featured artists such as Justin Bieber, Pharrell, Liam Gallagher, Katy Perry, Coldplay, Mac Miller, The Black Eyed Peas and Miley Cyrus. The show is broadcasting across the globe and proceeds will go to an emergency fund set up by the city of Manchester and the British Red Cross.
Grande had returned to the US to be with her family and flew back to England last week, where she did visit injured fans at the hospital ahead of the One Love Manchester concert, which she co-organized. The concert was confirmed last week on a Twitter post by the singer.
"I thought Ariana Grande was wrong to fly off after #ManchesterAttack", Morgan tweeted earlier. One Love Manchester is raising money for those affected by the bombing at the end of Ariana Grande's concert in Manchester on May 22, 2017. However, once the other musicians exited the stage, Grande returned without a word. One injured fan attended her concert on Sunday.
The subtle move at the show, which was put on by Grande's team and raised more than $9 million for the families of those involved in the attack, left fans in tears.
